Importance of the Ethics

The World Tourism Organization states that tourism must fully consider its current and future economic, social, and environmental impacts to meet the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment, and host communities. When it does so, it can be considered to follow a sustainable tourism model.

To develop the Ethical Code of Tourism of the Basque Country, the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism has been adapted to reflect the unique characteristics of our culture and identity, in line with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism of the World Tourism Organization, and the World Charter for Sustainable Tourism ST+20.
