Basic Rights of Tourist Consumers
- Right to receive prior, truthful, and complete information about the characteristics and prices of the products and services offered.
- Right to receive the product or service contracted in accordance with the advertised and/or offered conditions.
- Right to obtain an invoice or receipt for the amount paid for the tourism product or service.
Right to proper treatment and access to all establishments open to the public.
- Right to file complaints, claims, and reports, and to obtain a complaints form free of charge.
Choose Sustainable Organizations
- Euskadi is home to numerous tourism entities that work toward sustainability, implementing environmental management practices and social responsibility measures to reduce their impact on the environment.
- Choose accommodations, restaurants, active tourism companies, etc., that take into account recycling, energy and water saving, respect for the local community, and for natural and cultural heritage.
Also consider whether they are part of the Consumption Arbitration System.
10 tips
“The following tips are based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set out in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, the Basque Country Tourism Code of Ethics, and the World Charter for Sustainable Tourism ST+20.
1. Know your rights

The BASQUE COUNTRY has a Tourism Act, which establishes the rights of users of tourist services and products, the main ones being:
- Receive background, accurate and com- plete information about the characteristics and prices of the products and services they are offered.
- Receive the good or service contracted according to the characteristics announced and offered.
- Obtain an invoice or ticket for the price paid for the tourist product or service.
- Proper treatment and access to all establishments open to the public.
- Make complaints, claims and denunciations and obtain a complaint form free of charge.
3. Encourage appropriate behaviour towards workers

Treat the people who provide services during your visit with respect. And remember that you can exercise your right to lodge a complaint or objection if you are not happy with any of the services received.
5. Enjoy the local culturea

The BASQUE COUNTRY is a place with cities, towns, streets and squares with lots of personality. Some manifestations of our culture can be enjoyed in local festivals, music, painting, architecture or folklore among others.
7. Contribute to environmental preservation

Reduce the environmental impact by taking care of nature’s resources, especially woods and marshes. Respect wildlife and its natural habitat. Reduce water and energy consumption and packaging, and manage waste in a responsible manner, not leaving any rubbish behind and using selective waste containers. Do not introduce invasive species or acquire protected flora and fauna or products derived from these species. Do not remove any material from geological formations of interest either.
9. Use sustainable transport

Choose accommodation, restaurants and tourism companies that work toward sustainability and take into account recycling, energy and water savings, and respect for the local community and for the natural and cultural heritage, and check that they are members of the Consumption Arbitration System.
2. Promote local development

If you have the chance, consume local products, as added to enjoying local cuisine, culture and crafts, you will be contributing to the conservation and sustainable development of the environment and to generating quality employment.
Hire local guides who are well-versed in the tourist resources of the BASQUE COUNTRY. Respect the livelihood of shopkeepers and artisans, paying a fair price for products and services. Do not buy counterfeit products and items, which are prohibited by national or international regulations.
4. Respect diversity

Favour eliminating barriers that limit the integration of persons on grounds of gender, origin, religion, sexual orientation, economic status or other status, avoiding sexist language and offensive comments.
Also, facilitate access and equal opportunities for those who have accessibility or communication needs, respecting the spaces or services intended for their use.
6. Contribute to heritage conservation

Help preserve the tourist attractions, while respecting the rules and access designed for their preservation and conservation.
Preserve the universal values of the Heritage and avoid negative impacts that compromise its survival.

10. Be a responsible tourist

Treat people with respect, preserving their dignity and treating them as equals. Spread the beauty and interest of the tourist resources you visit, helping the tourism development of the BASQUE COUNTRY and promoting the local economy and culture.
Natural, cultural, and heritage resources are limited, so we must protect and preserve them — and in doing so, we contribute to the sustainable tourism of the BASQUE COUNTRY.
1. Conoce tus derechos

EUSKADI cuenta con la Ley de Turismo, que establece los derechos de las personas usuarias de servicios y productos turísticos, entre los que destacan:
- Recibir información previa, veraz y completa sobre las características y los precios de los productos y los servicios que se les oferten.
- Recibir el bien o servicio contratado de acuerdo a las características ofertadas.
- Obtener factura o tique del precio abonado por el producto o servicio turístico.
- Trato correcto y acceder a todos los establecimientos abiertos al público.
- Formular quejas, reclamaciones y denuncias y a obtener gratuitamente una hoja de reclamaciones.
2. Fomenta el desarrollo local

Si tienes ocasión, consume productos locales, porque además de disfrutar de la gastronomía, cultura y artesanía locales, estarás contribuyendo a la conservación y desarrollo sostenible del entorno y a la generación de empleo de calidad. Contrata a guías locales que conozcan bien los recursos turísticos de EUSKADI.
Respeta los medios de vida de comerciantes y artesanos, pagándoles un precio justo por los productos y servicios. No compres productos y artículos falsificados, prohibidos por las normativas nacionales e internacionales.
3. Fomenta un trato adecuado a las trabajadoras

Trata de forma respetuosa a todas aquellas personas que te prestan servicios durante tu visita. Y recuerda que puedes ejercer tu derecho a formular quejas o reclamaciones si algún servicio no te satisface.
4. Respeta la diversidad

Favorece la eliminación de barreras que limiten la integración de las personas por motivos de género, origen, religión, orientación sexual, situación económica u otra condición; evitando lenguajes sexistas, comentarios ofensivos.
Igualmente, facilita el acceso y la igualdad de oportunidades a aquellas personas que tengan necesidades en cuestiones de accesibilidad, comunicación, respetando los espacios o servicios destinados para su uso.
5. Disfruta de la cultura vasca

EUSKADI es un lugar con ciudades, pueblos, calles y plazas con mucha personalidad. Algunas manifestaciones de nuestra cultura, pueden disfrutarse a modo de fiestas locales, música, pintura, arquitectura o folklore entre otros.
6. Contribuye a la conservación del patrimonio

Ayuda a conservar los atractivos turísticos, respetando las normas y los accesos diseñados para su preservación y conservación. Preserva los valores universales del Patrimonio y evita impactos negativos que comprometan su supervivencia.
7. Contribuye a la preservación ambiental

Reduce el impacto ambiental cuidando los recursos de la naturaleza, especialmente los bosques y los humedales. Respeta la vida silvestre y su hábitat natural. Reduce el consumo de agua, energía, y envases, y gestiona los residuos de forma responsable sin dejar basura, utilizando los contenedores de separación selectiva. No introduzcas especies invasoras, ni adquieras flora y fauna protegida, ni productos derivados de dichas especies
8. Elige productos y servicios sostenibles

Escoge alojamientos, restaurantes y empresas de turismo, que trabajen en pro de la sostenibilidad, y tengan en cuenta el reciclaje, el ahorro de energía y agua, y el respeto a la comunidad local y al patrimonio natural y cultural, y valora que los mismos se encuentren adheridos al Sistema Arbitral de Consumo.
9. Utiliza el transporte sostenible

Siempre que sea posible, utiliza el transporte público como el autobús, tren o tranvía para desplazarte. De esta forma contribuirás a la reducción de emisiones, evitarás el colapso de vehículos en las ciudades, y ahorrarás tiempo y dinero.
Organiza traslados a pie, o alquilando bicicletas, que permitan vivir la experiencia de manera saludable.
10. Sé un turista responsable

Trata a las personas con respeto, preservando su dignidad, tratándolas de igual a igual. Difunde la belleza e interés de los recursos turísticos que visites, ayudando así al desarrollo turístico de EUSKADI, y fomentando la economía y la cultura local.
Los recursos naturales, culturales y patrimoniales son limitados, por ello debemos protegerlos y preservarlos, y de este modo contribuiremos a la sostenibilidad turística de EUSKADI.
